Shark Repelling Wetsuits

In 2013, Shark Attack Mitigation Systems (SAMS), working in collaboration with the Oceans Institute at the University of Western Australia, released an anti-shark wetsuit design to help reduce the chance of a shark attack on swimmers, snorkelers, and surfers.

While sharks use an array of sensory organs to search and seek prey, vision is considered a crucial sense in the final stage of an "attack". SAMs, and the Ocean Institute, believe that by disrupting a shark's visual perception an attack can be delayed or even stopped.

The current wetsuits were developed through an array of scientific studies that examined a range of shark deterrent designs. There are two main design variations currently in production, including the "Cryptic", which is used to camouflage divers and swimmers in the water, and the "Warning", primarily suited for surfers to make them appear poisonous or "as unlike shark prey" as possible.

These designs are also available for certain watersport equipment.
