A new project, to
promote sustainable shark fisheries, has begun off the coasts of Cumbria and
Lancanshire England.
The Shark Trust, is
releasing informational guides and leaflets to commercial fishermen in order to
help them identify different species of sharks, skates, and rays. They are
hoping that by educating fisherman they can reduce overfishing in northern waters,
and aid in the collection of data.
While fishermen already record their catch, some species can be difficult to
identify. The guides released by the Shark Trust should help the fishermen to
quickly and accurately identify the species caught and improve management of
fish stocks.
